This is a public, open meeting of Community Board 10’s Traffic & Transportation committee, which oversees our road and sidewalk infrastructure. Neighbors are encouraged to attend, and are allowed to speak and provide feedback at a public comment period at the end of the session.

Meeting Agenda

• Representatives from DOT will present six alternative plans for the intersection of Marine Avenue / 3rd Avenue / 99th Street. DOT will then conduct a workshop with Committee Members and residents to collect comments and get input on each proposal.

This meeting is a continuation of previous DOT presentations dating back to 2019 that are intended to improve pedestrian safety along 3rd Avenue near 99th St and Marine Avenue. The key issue is that, in order to move existing traffic lights to safer locations, federal guidelines state that a major traffic alteration must be made nearby to justify it. Essentially, the city cannot make improvements over time based on data alone: a change needs to happen for the Feds to allow a traffic light to be shifted or removed. The initial proposal by the DOT was to make a nearby street one-way in order to fulfill this requirement, but more proposals were asked for by the Community Board.
